Ministry in Ecuador's Amazon Frontier
Why This Matters for Ministry:
In Ecuador’s northern Amazon province of Sucumbíos, communities along the Coca River face unique challenges as they live on the Colombian border, where geographical isolation and limited infrastructure create barriers to education, healthcare, and spiritual growth. Puerto Madero has been particularly affected by oil spills in the Coca River, yet families here demonstrate incredible resilience and openness to ministry that addresses both their physical and spiritual needs.

OUR STORY
Where the Coca River Flows, Hope Grows
Along the banks of the Coca River in Sucumbíos province, Puerto Madero stands as a testament to resilience. This community has faced environmental challenges including oil spills that have impacted their river, yet families continue to welcome ministry with open hearts and unwavering faith.
Our ministry reaches five distinct communities, each with unique needs and beautiful cultures. In Puerto Maderos, we mentor 25 children and teenagers. At La Troncal, we operate sustainable businesses including an agricultural machinery workshop where Kevin, a young man born in Maderos, now repairs chainsaws and brush cutters after receiving technical training. Vanessa manages our gymnasium and community cafeteria, providing her family with stable income.
The most transformative moment comes in Shayari, a Kichwa indigenous community where we conduct discipleship and share God’s word within their cultural context. Here we witness their traditional dances, honor their customs, and walk together with respect and faith as we serve 70 children who receive each teaching with joy.
«Each encounter is a celebration where God touches lives through love and service.»
Communities We Serve
Where Your Love Reaches Every Week
Reaching communities along the Coca River requires navigating challenging terrain, seasonal flooding, and the environmental impacts that have affected this border region. Puerto Madero has been particularly affected by oil spills in the Coca River, yet our teams continue to travel by vehicle, on foot, and sometimes by boat during rainy seasons to ensure no child is forgotten and no family faces their struggles alone.

The Reality We Face
Challenges That Break Our Hearts
Living along the Coca River in this border region means confronting harsh realities that no child should endure alone. When basic survival becomes a daily struggle, childhood innocence is lost far too early.
Daily Struggles:
- Many children suffer from chronic malnutrition, surviving only on homemade chicha as their primary sustenance
- Children as young as 8 become primary caregivers when parents leave for weeks to work distant farms
- Unsupervised children face increased risks of abuse and exploitation
- Exposure to alcohol and drugs becomes commonplace in communities where hope feels distant
- Children make life-altering decisions without adult guidance, perpetuating cycles of poverty and trauma
Chronic malnutrition
Chronic malnutrition affecting 7 out of 10 children
School dropout
School dropout rates exceeding 60% due to poverty
